Seeking is a work performed by four dancers and four musicians which explores the insidious nature of everyday sexism from seemingly small problems to huge ones. It tells our stories and demands change.
Helix Arts
Helix Arts supported the second R&D of Seeking in 2025 with a week-long residency in their space in the centre of North Shields. They also invited us to deliver a workshop for their long running group, Falling On Your Feet with whom we shared our ideas, music and movement and in return they told us their feminist stories. At the end of the residency, we shared 45minutes of the work with industry professionals and friends in an intimate sharing.
Newcastle Circus Arts
Newcastle Circus Arts generously provided us with a week of space and use of their extensive aerial rigging and kit. This meant in this space, we were able to explore vertical dance within the work. NCA is a large, beautiful space which meant we were able to hold an open sharing at the end of the week with an audience of 90. This was an important milestone for the work as it was the first time lots of people were seeing the work and at this stage, we hadn't created the resolution of the piece but had confronted some of the saddest elements. It was a teary performance for many of the audience and so we knew we were beginning to get the message across.
Stockton International Riverside Festival
Seeking in its first week of R&D was performed as part of Platform for new works at SIRF in 2025. We drew an audience of over 400 in the main street of Stockton. In preparation for outdoor and international touring, we wanted to trial a version of the work which involved less text and still told women's stories and spoke of the hardships but was safe and accessible for anyone passing by. It felt significant to see an all female performance in the centre of the festival, surrounded by festival goers and passers by.
